Truth and art ...
The Music Business is a business .. that's what it is. For some it can be stifling. There's a constant tension between Music's art, and it's commerce. The perspective of many on the "Business" end of things is "Okay, how can we fit this into something else and make money?" The "Artist" perspective is usually "How can I (we) stand apart from others and express ourselves uniquely?" This too is what it is ...
There are industry and other "pressures" applied to today's creative artist, especially when one comes from a place of personal artistic and / or spiritual integrity. On one hand (as noted above) there is the pressure to conform to current trends ...both stylistic and lyrical. On the other, there are social and moral pressures from some to keep one in line with the current cultural, political and religious status quo. Also, today's media culture exerts tremendous pressure on the artist to side up on the narrow issues of politics. This is not good. You may have no issue with this approach to your craft. If that's your thing, fine. SCR believes what suffers in the end is ... truth and art.
As an artist myself, I have lived long enough to see the ill-effects of this scenario. And, I know there are many like me who have suffered under these pressures to keep their art between the lines of what others consider appropriate. Many of us have had enough. We believe it is time we take back ears to hear truth and eyes to see beauty. We prefer to trust the artist.
SCR endeavors to promote the individual artist's "intentions" in their work. We see no box to contain their pursuits. What we offer is a family of those like-minded that will join arm-in-arm to help them attain their goals. What we require is the same effort from them to help the rest of us. We believe in community. We believe in the artist. We believe in truth. And even if we fall flat in our efforts, this is our goal. You want a mission statement? ... This is ours. You want to join the coming Coup? ... Enlist.
